Surat Thani, literally means in Thai as the 'City of Good People', was used to be the seat of the ancient Srivijaya Empire. In the present day, this province is a transport hub that erratically moves cargo and natives around the country.

Being the largest and most important province of the South, Surat Thani is known as the center of the Mahayana Buddhist remaining from the legendary empire of Srivijaya. Nowadays Surat Thaini has become a significant export state for coconuts, rubber and rambutan. It is also a hub for tourists going to the islands of Mu Koh Samui and the Andaman region in the South West.

Surat Thani is covered with tall plateau and mountains as well as precious wood forest to the west and low basins in the central and eastern area. Surat Thani is not really attracted to travelers. Most visitors just pass by, however if you are not in a hurry, spend several days in Surat Thani and it will be a great opportunity to see a more authentic Thailand with local culinary, local tradition and warming friendliness.

Surat Thani consists of some islands thatoffer various exciting activities that only those who set foot here can fully experience. Besides, come to visit an acient pagoda called Phra Boromathat Chaiya housing Lord Buddha relics that is believed to be built over a thousand year ago. The Chaiya National Museum locatesat Wat Phra Boromathat Chaiya where tourists can learn more about historical and archaeological things. There are many art objects and several other crafts being displayed here. You can even explore teaching pavilions in which many paintings and poems illustrating ethical teachings “Entertainment Houses for the Soul”.

It is also a good opportunity to wander around night market and pick up some unique local products or take a seat at some restaurant to witness the scene as you dine. Enjoy fresh fruit juices, fried chicken, pad Thai and much more. If you are kind of person interested in drinking, Night Pier is a good choice for eating seafood and drinking beer while having a nice boat.
