Kalasin, the land of the famous Phrae Wa cloth and Pong Lang music, is a comparatively small province in the northeast of Thailand. Lying 519km from Bangkok, the province covers an area of 6,946 square kilometers and consists of 18 districts: Yang Talat, Mueang Kalasin, Kamalasai, Kuchi Nairai, Sahatsakhan, Somdet, Tha Khantho, Khao Wong, Kham Muang, Na Mon, Huai Mak, Nong Kung Si, Huai Phung, Na Khun, Son Chan, Rong Kham, Sam Chai and Khong Chai.

Being the site of Fa Daet Song Yang ancient city, Kalasin is one of the biggest centralization of dinosaur fossils in the northeastern region of Thailand. This is a busy agricultural land with remarkable attractions. According to some recent archeological excavations, this land was once settled by the Lawa tribe 1600 years ago. The first official town was established in 1793 and the province was founded by the Act Establishing Changwat Kalasin in 1947.

Despite being a small agricultural province, Kalasin offers a wide range of attractions, including historic buildings, religious sites, exhibition centres, museums, markets, sighseeing places, family entertainment, and natural attractions. Some of popular ones are Phraya Chaisunthon Monument, Wat Klang temple, Wat Si Bun Rueang temple, Phra Buddha Saiyat Phu Khao Buddha image, Kalasin Museum, Mueang Fa Daet Song Yang ancient town, Culture & Tourism Promotion Center, Lam Pao Wildlife Conservation Development and Promotion Station and Phu Phra Forest Park, etc. For those who want to understand more about the culture of Kalasin can come to Kalasin Cultural Center where hosts the most famous hand-crafted product, Phrae Wa Silk, hand-woven with unique coloful designs made by Phi, or join in some festivals held throughout the year as Kalasin Pong Lang, Phrae Wa and Red Cross Fair (in February) and Wichit Phrae Wa Silk Festival (on 12 August), with many interesting activities and traditional performances.
